Fisheries Conservation Update

In February 1999, FISH Unlimited continued its efforts on several key conservation fronts. The organization was actively engaged in monitoring the impact of the Millstone Nuclear Power Station on Long Island Sound's marine ecosystem, as well as advancing research at Brookhaven National Laboratory regarding phytoremediation techniques.

Legislative Updates

The reauthorization of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act remained a top priority. FISH Unlimited advocated for stronger protections against overfishing and habitat destruction, particularly regarding swordfish populations in Atlantic waters.
